About Me

I am a “writer for fun” turned author. I have a new book in the publishing process. The Cause:Love & War: is a historical fiction novel based in Gettysburg PA just before the battle of 1863. The book will be released September 19, 2013.

My husband and I are proud parents of 6 children collectively. We have 4 boys and 2 girls all young adults or teenagers.  As any parent knows, it is the most difficult, but most rewarding journey you will ever take. We welcome the challenge of high school; young adulthood and all that comes with it.

My writing career has been lifelong. I started writing at 8 years old. It all began with a horse story. The Cause: Love & War was a work in progress for many years. I finally got up the nerve to ask someone else to look at it. I write historical fiction, because I am most comfortable with this genre. I started out as a romance novel reader, but found myself bored with the genre. Since history is my third love (in case you were counting), I decided to throw some history into the story and here we are.

I am a historical re-enactor by hobby. I can say I live history. There is so much to learn and teach. I bring it to life and that is exciting.  This hobby has allowed me to write in great detail. If you want to be in the thick of things, I can put you there.  My love for re-enacting came from my desire to teach history in a way that would be fun and engaging. I found Heritage Hill State Park and the rest is literally history.

  4. Hello Ellyn, thank you for stopping by and for following. I enjoy books (fiction and non fiction) on history especially civil war era. Actually my husband and I love Gettysburg and have jokingly said we could take people on the tours! Love is a strange word to use for a battle ground, but something just draws us there. I look forward to reading your book. I look forward to reading more of your blog. How long have you been re-enacting? We were planning on becoming re-enacters but my soon after my husband retired he developed some health issues. But we still enjoy being spectators, learning all we can. Thank you for preserving our history.

    • Thank you for stopping by. I am getting excited to get the book out. Now that things are rolling with it, I can’t wait to have you read it. I have been re-enacting on and off for many years. I am glad I found your blog, it is very informative to read. Happy New Year to you and your husband.

  5. Ellyn, I sent your link to an intuitive friend of mine writing biographies and history in Oregon. Just wanted to mention that the woman who wrote the Clan of the Cave Bear series actually lived the life for a month or more on the Malheur with a guide. I think she must have reached back into our very distant past as humans to come up with some of that info through meditation. Science has since documented some of her findings. I think you’re opening up another new path for many people to bring back history for the benefit of all of us. Best wishes, Jenae

  6. Hey Ellyn – thanks for coming by and the moral support, it is greatly appreciated.
I enjoy historical fiction – I think it started with the Jean Plaidy books I read as a child – and look forward to reading more about your work.

  7. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for the follow. Have a great Saturday!
